Coming to Santa Cruz this Saturday is a wonderful band from Olympia, Washington called Desolation Wilderness. Read The Dharma Bums? Remember where Kerouac’s character ends up at the end? Desolation Wilderness. This music fits the name for sure; Nicolaas Zwart’s music seems to enclose an entire vast into one track, the guitars are thick and warm, the vocals drenched in reverb. For fans of dreamy, blissed-out shoegaze that doesn’t go too far away from what we consider songs and melodies.

Desolation Wilderness’ most recent album, White Light Strobing (K Records, 2008) did quite well at KZSC and I can’t recommend enough to check out this show.
At the Center for Non-Violence, 515 Broadway in Santa Cruz. Saturday night at 6:30 PM. Openers are Oakland’s Swanifant and Santa Cruz’s finest pop experience, James Rabbit. Donations for touring bands will be taken at the door.
Presented by This Is Not a Record Label.
