KZSC Co-Presents Ghoul!

A note from our Loud Rock Director, Crazy Kelly, in regards to the Ghoul show that we are co-presenting!

Monday, May 11th will be one of those memorable shows for local metalheads. Have to say, it has been a while since a powerhouse of a metal show has rolled through the notoriously hippie town of Santa Cruz. People seem to think that metal is a dying genre in a town full of jam bands and drum circles. But in actuality, metalheads throughout the area always come out of the woodwork to this seeming unpopular style of music. And I am certain this will be the case for the Decrepit Birth, Ghoul, General Surgery and the Backup Razor gig that is quickly approaching.

Hometown metal-ers Decrepit Birth do not disappoint. I saw this band just over a year ago with Santa Cruz technical death band Brain Drill. They killed (meaning they put on one hell of a show). And I apparently was not the only one impressed by their performance. Decrepit Birth is signed to Nuclear Blast records and has toured extensively across the U.S. and Europe. Not to shabby.

Ghoul is one “interesting” band. With “interesting” used with the best intentions. This group of four graveyard dwelling, flesh-eating ghouls hail for the Eastern European country of Creepsylvania. These abominations to beauty create death metal with elements of thrash that are absolute pleasures to destroy one another to in the pit!!!

General Surgery. Yes, this band delivers music that is as unpleasant as their names sounds. Hailing from Stockholm Sweden, these evil dentists (appearing on stage in white medical scrubs covered in blood) produce a brand of death metal and goregrind that is sure to please (much more than a root canal).

Lastly, Santa Cruz’s own metal band- The Backup Razor. Shaking up the Santa Cruz scene since 2007, the Backup Razor is known for their own brand of extreme music. This aggressive blend of punk and metal paired with the high pitched screams and low growling vocal style produces a distinctive style of heavy music.

So, be there. Where? At this show! Monday, May 11th at the Blue Lagoon located on Pacific Avenue- Downtown Santa Cruz. This gig is 21+ so all you underage thrashers get your fake ids ready. This is one will not disappoint. Doors open at 8pm with the show starting at 9pm. KZSC will be present at the show! So say hey and pick up some station swag of your favorite radio station that represents heavy music.

See you in the pit,
Crazy Kelly
