Hello again, music junkies! I’m pleased to say that KZSC is still rolling along with a pleasant stream of excellent, excellent new music. First up, our top 5 adds. These are the top 5 new albums that we think are worth noting as great. Listen in to any new indie music show (try Capturing Moods at 12pm on Wednesday or Pocket Full of Manatees at 8pm on Thursday) and you should hear some of these sounds. 1. UUVVWWZ (prounounced “double u, double v, double double u, z”) – s/t – Sounds just like Deerhoof. Great, spazzy experimental music.
2. Peggy Sue – Lover Gone EP – Sounds like the beautiful side of CocoRosie minus the huge reliance on sound clippings. Beautiful female voices over melodic stripped-down folk music. Creamy with a touch of roughness. (music video here http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ZmsiTcNfAAY)
3. Bowerbirds – Upper Air – Accordians, a light folk influence and coarse vocals remind me of Okkervil River. The lyrics on this album are amazing, and the whole thing shows a lot of depth. Check out track number one to be blown away.
4. The Rural Alberta Advantage – Hometowns – See above description, add more tenacity, more thrashing drums. Excellent album.
5. Squirrelhouse- S.P.Q.R. – Sounds like Broken Social Scene. Energetic, catchy and epic.
