Electronic Music Roundup

YACHT 'See Mystery Lights'

Hello, my name is Daniel and I am KZSC’s Electronic Music Director. And, alas, it has been many moons last since I deployed my clickity-clacking fingers to write on this blog, and I apologize. But never fear, my children, and listlessly wander in the dark for no longer – for I have returned to yee, bearing the gift of information. Lo and hark, I now provide you with the latest from KZSC’s Electronic Music department.

I’m not going to lie – it’s been slow going here this summer. The new music has been trickling in. However, it has been a joy for me to listen to all of these new releases and share them with all of you, our dear listeners. Some of these things you may have heard on our electronic music shows before, some maybe not. Maybe you don’t listen to our electronic music shows, but after reading this, you’ll become inspired! How delightful!

Starting off, we have YACHT‘s latest endeavor, ‘See Mystery Light.’ YACHT is Jona Bechtolt, the other half of the popular indie/electro-pop group The Blow. ‘See Mystery Light’ is a bizzare little creation that seems to be a pop record architecturally but has all the trimmings of something more experimental and electronic. The result is something that you wouldn’t really imagine wanting to tapping your toes to, but ultimately you will.

Scott Hardkiss himself

Additionally, we have Scott Hardkiss with his new album ‘Technicolor Deramer’ new in the Air Room. Funky, catchy, and totally irreverent. To be sure, Scott Hardkiss spends no time grousing on contemporary issues social or political save those that revolve around dancing and having a good time. Perhaps, considering the times in which we live, the album is a refreshing blast of what electronic music – on a popular level, and in a larger context, dance music of all types and styles – has been so good at doing: escapism through dance, with simple, catchy hooks and the fun of inane, silly lyrics.
