Why we love you so: PREGNANT

The most blissful gift that’s soared through the station recently has been the awe-inspiring sound-sampling experimental rock of PREGNANT. Remember when I freaked out in utter love of HIGH LIFE? This is the same. But bigger because we get to play this record allll over our station. The album “Liquidation on Swans” has been in constant rotation in my bedroom, on my shows, in my head as I’m walking to class, everywhere. It’s no surprise why. The album has the “let’s go there” insanity quality of The Books, Animal Collective, The Microphones, High Life, etc etc etc. With sound samples, spaced out drones and hypnotic melodies, this is an album that can legitimately replace any of those aforementioned greats as your favorite blow your mind into pieces while remaining totally catchy slices of joy.

No really Pregnant, you are amazing.

The best part of all of this is that Pregnant is super easy to get into. I had another mini-disaster with an external harddrive (oh god don’t get me started on this) which left me at home, with a computer, internet, and no music. So I ventured to PREGNANT’s myspace where there exists THE BEST PREGNANT RECORDING. So, instructions for a kick-ass winter break:

1. Pour yourself a cup of coffee*

2. Go to that there Pregnant myspace.

3. Listen to “Live at a Pizza Place”. You now have 20 minutes to:

4. Relax. Enjoy. Do. Create.

You may find that making a collage or cleaning your room or looking at an art book or drawing a picture or practicing your headstand is better fit to this music. Whatever it is, enjoy it so big. And then tell me if you like it because this album means decades to me.

Merry Christmas.
