Today on Pop Molecule, DJ Jessica will be airing an exclusive interview she did with Dr. Dog. Tune in at 2pm for the full interview!
The unholy transcendental metal babes of Fell Voices will be (finally) playing again in Santa Cruz this Tuesday, May 25th at SubRosa. If you don’t recall the absurd escapades of our ruler Stephanie at their show last summer, ignite your memory here. (and yes it has been ages since they played in their hometown, so you should all be pretty confetti-excited by this news). Fell Voices will be joined by The Slaves (who are supposed to be amazing) and Tunnels. Event details are here, “For those who appreciate dark and meditative musics, attendance is strongly encouraged.”

Here’s a calendar of all of the upcoming shows that we (so far) know about! Print it out, hang it up, hand it around, make it your desktop image!
Mountain Animal Hospital are no strangers to being on the radio. Their exceptional performance on The Rising Tide program back in February showcased how this incredibly unique and cavernously loud rock band could strip down a couple of their songs and perform them in an acoustic setting without losing any of the fervor or timbre that has become their signature sound.
Tonight at 8:30 tune in on KZSC to hear the Mountain Animal Hospital dudes preview songs from their upcoming 2nd album, Better Children, a body of work that showcases the group’s seamless fusion of progressive rock and dark atmospheres. It’s a testament to one of Santa Cruz’s finest (and hardest working) band’s growth as a group, and one of the biggest reasons to be excited about Santa Cruz’s burgeoning local music scene in the year 2010!
Wait, there’s more: The Rising Tide will also serve as host for the two other local Santa Cruz acts that will round up the bill at the Mountain Animal Hospital CD release show at the Crepe Place in Santa Cruz on Thursday, May 27th: Electric Leaves and San Narciso.
Electric Leaves are local mainstays while San Narciso is a new band that’s been tearing it up all over town. Both acts will be making their radio debut this Friday night. DJ PassiveTheory will interview the groups plus you’ll hear new songs from all three of these fantastic local acts.
You can hear some of the songs off of Better Children streaming at Mountain Animal Hospital’s myspace (including the barn-burner, “Silicone Brain”) found here. Check out Electric Leaves and San Narciso at their respective myspaces as well here and here. If you like what you hear, the Better Children CD release show will be taking place May 27th at the Crepe Place. Showtime is at 9pm.
Now that our spring that thought it was winter is quickly shifting into summer, it’s time to take KZSC’s music with you outdoors. Our new summer schedule will begin on Monday, June 14th.

The question of who has a bigger brain can only be answered by you. KZSC’s Phrenology shirt comes in forest green and features a brain divided into music types. This shirt was an instant favorite with our listeners as soon as it arrived and will only be available a little while longer.
