So much has been written about the career and songwriting of James Marshall (aka Jimi) Hendrix, but little has been published about his life before stardom. Abusive parents who abandoned Jimi and his brother, a brief but significant stretch in the military and life on the road with some of the biggest names in black popular music are all discussed in a new book titled “Becoming Jimi Hendrix”.
Author Steven Roby will be KZSC’s interview guest next Monday morning between 8 and 9 AM to talk about Hendrix, the new book and a special UCSC presentation about Jimi coming to Kresge College October 12th at 7 PM.
