So much has been written about the career and songwriting of James Marshall (aka Jimi) Hendrix, but little has been published about his life before stardom. Abusive parents who abandoned Jimi and his brother, a brief but significant stretch in the military and life on the road with some of the biggest names in black popular music are all discussed in a new book titled “Becoming Jimi Hendrix”.
Author Steven Roby will be KZSC’s interview guest next Monday morning between 8 and 9 AM to talk about Hendrix, the new book and a special UCSC presentation about Jimi coming to Kresge College October 12th at 7 PM.
Although his birthday is technically on Saturday, KZSC will get an early start celebrating what would have been John’s 70th this Thursday morning. We’ll be featuring a new radio special that discusses several newly released and remastered CDs with a sneak preview at some of the exciting material. Of course there will be time for all your John/Beatles requests and dedications too.
You don’t have to use your imagination – just tune in between 6 and 9 AM this Thursday for the John Lennon Birthday Party during the “Here, There and Everywhere” program on KZSC.
KZSC’s long-running indie pop show, “Pop Molecule”, will feature two exclusive interviews on Monday, October 4th, from 2pm-4pm. The first interview is with new band, Jenny and Johnny, which features Jenny Lewis and Johnathan Rice. I was given the rare opportunity to interview these two sweethearts before their show at the Rio Theatre in Santa Cruz.
The second interview is with Kevin Barnes of the band, of Montreal. Of Montreal just released their tenth studio album, “False Priest”. I had the opportunity to speak with lead singer, Kevin Barnes, on a break from the band’s busy tour schedule. Of Montreal will be at The Warfield in San Francisco on Friday, October 29th.
These two interviews are not to be missed! Tune in from 2pm-4pm on Monday, October 4th to hear these two interviews and loads of awesome indie pop music.
