Dan Bejar has always been one of my favorite artists. If you aren’t familiar with Dan Bejar, he is the mastermind behind Destroyer. If you aren’t familiar with Destroyer, you may recognize his voice as one of the lead singers of the band, The New Pornographers.
The new Destroyer album, “Kaputt”, is by far the best Destroyer album to date. The album opens with a lush and magical track called “Chinatown”. From the beginning of this album through the very end, Bejar takes the listener through a relaxed musical and emotional journey. Every track on “Kaputt” is nothing but beautiful. Bejar’s gorgeous, yet somewhat raspy voice, adds to the driving instrumentation on this album. “Kaputt” feels like it’s straight out of the 80s synth explosion, but only in the best way possible.
Although the album title, “Kaputt”, connotes an end or conclusion, Destroyer is in no way over. “Kaputt” is the ninth Destroyer LP, but I think we can expect Dan Bejar to continue releasing music for a long, long time.
Destroyer will be touring in support of “Kaputt” this Spring. If you are in Northern California, Destroyer will be at the Great American Music Hall in San Francisco on March 21st. Don’t miss out on seeing Destroyer live- Bejar will be backed by a full eight piece orchestra on this tour!
