Starting next month a shower of new music will be on our airwaves from some very familiar names. Paul Simon’s “So Beautiful or So What” features a balance of stripped-down sound and his first attempt at sampling (using blues great Sonny Terry). Let’s hope it’s not a turkey. Also on deck in April: Bob Dylan “Live at Brandeis”, Emmylou Harris’ “Hard Bargain”, Alison Krauss & Union Station’s “Paper Airplane”, Steve Earle’s “I’ll Never Get Out of This World Alive” (produced by T Bone Burnett) and Kinks frontman Ray Davies’ “See My Friends”. Former Band drummer Levon Helm’s “Ramble at the Ryman” comes in May. Funky favorites Beastie Boys release “Hot Sauce Committee Part 2″ this spring. Also keep your ears out for Bootsy Collins’ “The Funk Capital of the World” in April and a new Booker T. (without the MGs but with a smokin’ band) called “The Road to Memphis” in May.
Hear them here on the Great 88, KZSC this spring. Stay tuned!
