Frank Turner, the frontman of the former Million Dead, has steadily gained notoriety and a loving fan base for his deceptive ease in oscillating from intense, emotional acoustic to anarchic , energetic yells in his albums. With the release of his new album, “England Keep My Bones,” I have to say it doesn’t disappoint in the slightest.
Although slightly less high-energy than previous albums, “England Keep My Bones” is more reflective, recalling memories and emotions of whatever “home” may mean to you. He echoes issues that all people grapple with at points in their lives, but does so with care and true emotion, as shown in songs such as “Peggy Sang The Blues,” written about his own grandmother.
My personal favorite on the album has to be “I Am Disappeared,” and if high-energy is what you want, “I Still Believe” and “One Foot Before The Other” have got you covered brilliantly. Rounding out the album is what I’d call a bit of an atheist anthem with “Glory Hallelujah.”
