PSA of the Month: Clean Beaches

Year after year the traditions of picnics and fireworks bring thousands of people to the beaches in Santa Cruz and Monterey Counties to celebrate the 4th of July. Unfortunately these activities come hand in hand with single-use disposable products and trashed beaches. The Save our Shores organization has launched a “Pollution Prevention is Patriotic” campaign for the month of July.  In 2010, Save Our Shores volunteers removed 2,750 pounds of garbage and 400pounds of recycling from our beaches on July 5th, after the busy, Fourth of July weekend. This year you can lend a hand for the oceans and help stop thousands of pounds of pollution from entering the Monterey Bay National Marine Sanctuary by picking up trash and recycling. To find out about Save Our Shores organized clean up days at the beaches in July, go to their website SaveOurShores.org.
