Andrea Beaton will be performing at an intimate house concert in Bonny Doon at 7:30 pm on Thursday, July 28th sponsored by the Celtic Society of the Monterey Bay. Andrea is part of a younger generation of traditional musicians playing the Celtic music of Cape Breton, Nova Scotia, music that was brought to that island community in the 1700′s by Scottish settlers. She is the niece of master Cape Breton fiddler Buddy MacMaster and plays with great drive and enthusiasm, and can also step-dance to the music. Her latest solo CD “Branches” mostly features her original tunes, and received the East Coast Music Award for best Instrumental Recording of the Year in 2010. Andrea will be backed by Grammy-winning guitarist and UCSC music lecturer William Coulter and the lead cellist of Alasdair Fraser’s San Francisco Scottish Fiddlers, Aria Di Salvio.
