I could tell you about the time I met Edgar and his brother Johnny at LAX shortly after they sued the D.C. Comics company, but there’s a more important story. Edgar had to be coaxed into recording a song tentatively known as “Double Drum Solo” by band members. After laying down several variations of their long live version, he sat down in the studio with producer Rick Derringer to cut bits here and there. The stitching up of the segments gave the song it’s official title, “Frankenstein”. Released in 1972 along with “Free Ride”, the song became part of rock and roll history. Edgar Winter brings his band to the Santa Cruz Boardwalk on Friday July 29th for two FREE shows at 6:30 and 8:30 pm.
