Great bloggity goodness, there’s a huge amount of Hawai’i headed for Santa Cruz this summer. What could be more fun than listening to Hawaiian music by the sea? How about Hawaiian music on the Santa Cruz Wharf for FREE, surrounded by food, crafts (some on the water) and fun. It’s all part of the annual Aloha Outrigger Races & Polynesian Festival coming Sunday, August 21. Since the daylong event takes place upon the Santa Cruz Wharf, my advice is to bring a ‘windcheater’ (a.k.a. “windbreaker” for you Yanks). Music begins around 11 AM with Steven Espaniola, Faith Ako and Willie K. Willie K will also perform at Don Quixotes’ in Felton Wednesday August 24th at 7:30 p.m.
More delicious island-style food will fuel you in a righteous style at Pono Hawaiian Grill, 120 Union Street in downtown Santa Cruz as Huna Wai perform on Friday, August 19th beginning at 5:30 p.m. And if reggae is more to your taste, Katchafire from New Zealand visits Moe’s Alley for one night only Wednesday September 7th. However you enjoy your mix plate of music this summer, do get out there and support live music by live musicians
