Little known fact: Jerry Jeff was once turned down for an appearance on American Bandstand. Since then he dropped out of his teen rock band, went AWOL from the National Guard and wound up becoming a Texas singer/songwriter legend on a level with buddies Willie, Waylon and Guy Clark. “Mr. Bojangles” and “Up Against the Wall Red Neck Mother” may be his best-known tunes but Jerry has authored plenty of songs covered by everyone from Dylan to Neil Diamond. Jerry Jeff Walker makes a rare appearance at The Rio Theatre in Santa Cruz Saturday, August 27th. Showtime is 8 pm.
