Long before we became KZSC, students were broadcasting at UC Santa Cruz. In 1967 these pirates boarded the airwaves as KRUZ from the basement of Stevenson Dorm 2. It didn’t take long for both the FCC and UCSC administrators to realize there was “a problem”, but the broadcast seed was planted. Forty-five years later, KZSC kicks out a legal 20,000 watts throughout the Central Coast of California and around the world on the web.
We’re looking for ways to commemorate our past and present during 2012. If you have artwork, DJ memories or old tapes of the early days of KRUZ or KZSC, we’d love to hear from you.
