Dan “Daddy Squeeze” Newton, Wed Jan 18th

From chilly Minnesota comes Dan “Daddy Squeeze” Newton to the Backstage Lounge (next to the Rio Theatre) in Santa Cruz, CA on Wednesday, January 18, 2012 at 8:30pm. A true master of the much maligned squeeze box, Dan’s repertoire covers a wide swath of original and traditional material, including influences of Gypsy Swing, French Musette, Cajun, Jug Band, Tex-Mex and the Cumbia, A frequent guest on Garrison Keillor’s radio show “A Prairie Home Companion,” Dan’s shows feature not only his brilliant accordion work, but his humor and songs in a dizzying variety of musical genres. He also performs with a larger band, the CafĂ© Accordion Orchestra, but on this visit is appearing solo in an intimate venue.
