Hawaiian John Cruz gets a chance to visit KZSC during our singer/songwriter “Friday Folk” show this week. He’ll talk about his visit with President Obama, the use of his music on TV’s “Hawaii 5-0″ and of course the craft of writing songs. Hear John Cruz live on KZSC Friday morning between 9 and noon with host Lani B; John will be appearing at Don Quixotes in Felton with special guest Patti Maxine January 27th at 8 pm.
Special Consensus, the mighty four-person acoustic bluegrass band from the Chicago area, will be in concert Tuesday, January 24th, 2012, 7:30pm at Don Quixote’s in Felton, CA, performing songs from their CD “35,” named after the band’s 35th anniversary, and more. While band members have changed over the decades, they’re still led by ace banjo player Greg Cahill. Opening the show will be local Santa Cruz favorites Bean Creek, who play and sing early country, old-time and bluegrass music with lots of heart and exuberance.
Scottish singer-songwriter Jim Malcolm will be performing at Don Quixote’s in Felton, CA on Wednesday, January 25, 2012. Former lead singer of the well-respected band Old Blind Dogs, Jim has been touring the world with his guitar and harmonicas, singing the traditional songs of Scotland along with his own originals. He’s a master interpreter of the songs of Robert Burns, and this evening will also be a celebration of the 253rd anniversary of the birthday of Scotland’s national poet. Opening will be local Celtic music artists Deby Benton Grosjean (fiddle) and Shelley Phillips (harp, woodwinds). Presented by the Celtic Society of the Monterey Bay.
The Maya were right. The culture that invented drainage systems, numeric calendars and perfected chocolate are getting a lot of attention these days for their 2012 predictions (or lack thereof). One thing they nailed for sure – a great new program schedule on KZSC. How they knew is still a mystery; what you’ll find on The Great 88 does not. To find out more about the changes in our programming, check out our Schedule/Playlist page. We hope you enjoy it as much as they did.
