Instead of saying “kiss my bottom”to his critics, Sir Paul tactfully quoted a line from Fats Waller’s 1935 composition, “I’m Gonna Sit Right Down And Write Myself A Letter”for the title of his new recording. McCartney’s “Kisses on the Bottom” is a collection of standards he grew up listening to in his childhood along with two new compositions. Some may say that, following Willie Nelson, Rod Stewart, etc. into the world of pop standards is a sign of a shortage of inspiration. Paul says it’s something he’s always wanted to do and he’s brought Eric Clapton and others along for the ride. Form your own opinion as we play selections from the new Paul McCartney next to classic Paul songs Thursday on KZSC’s “Here, There & Everywhere” program from 6-9 AM. Your Fab Four requests are always welcome.
