I could go on endlessly as to how problematic the genre term, “World Music” is, but blogs don’t allow for voluminous rants from turgid bastards such as myself. What I can say is this: less and less music is coming in labeled as, “File in WORLD”. On the other hand, more music is coming into the station that’s really quite hard to peg in a single category! As the Internet shrinks our world, influences are going around; collaborations abound. Norms are being transcended. You can tell that many musicians are listening more carefully to other musicians. The world is coming together, at least musically, and that’s a very good thing.
