Strange record releases for Record Store Day

Record Store day has been established as a day where die-hard vinyl fans can snatch up limited edition 7″s and gather with fellow die-hards. Every year, record labels try to win over the crowds by releasing limited quantities of records by extremely popular artists. However, over the years artists and labels have been getting more and more creative with the releases on this celebrated day. This year, The Flaming Lips have announced that they are releasing a collaborative song with artists like Bon Iver, Erykah Badu, Neon Indian, Nick Cave, Ke$ha, Neon Indian, and many more on tie-dye vinyl. Although this might already sound somewhat of a weird concept, like always Wayne Coyne has provided an even more surprising twist… limited editions of these records will be infused with the collaborators’ blood! Pictures of the records have surfaced on Pitchfork and Wayne Coyne has confirmed that he has almost collected all of the vials of blood for the records. These extremely limited number of records are reserved for “interested rich Flaming Lips people,” so basically nobody will be able to afford them.

Another interesting take on Record Store Day has come from Jack White’s Third Man Records. I have no words for the crazy, amazing things they are coming out with for Record Store day and unlike The Flaming Lip’s wacky release, Third Man Records are actually affordable! I will let you see the kind of things that they have been working on in the Nashville offices. Be excited vinyl lovers, be very excited.

Record Store Day happens Saturday April 21st at your local purveyor of playable plastic.
