All of us at KZSC are saddened by the passing of diva Donna Summer, who passed away this Thursday. The Queen of Disco is famous for her mezzo soprano vocal range and a myriad of singles including “Bad Girls,” “Hot Stuff,” and “I Feel Love.” Summer has time and again risen to the top of the charts, earning five Grammy awards and twelve nominations. Not only was she an amazing performer who was able to gracefully assimilate into funk, R&B, disco, electronica and rock genres, she also has found success in her songwriting abilities. An inspiration for many, Summer has become a cultural icon that over the years has only grown in popularity. As quoted in the New York Times remembrance, Summers told the Times in 2003 “‘This music will always be with us [...] I mean, whether they call it disco music or hip-hop or bebop or flip-flop, whatever they’re going to call it, I think music to dance to will always be with us.’” At 63, her passing came too soon and we will continue to recognize her beautiful work through the airwaves here at KZSC.
