Stories from Santa Cruz Youth Tonight on KZSC

Students from Santa Cruz’s Natural Bridges High School will present a one-hour program of stories from their experiences as young people tonight on KZSC. Celestino Rodriguez traces the history of his Mayan family from the 16th Century to today; Anastasia Welch shares the stories of four young runaways; Thairie Ritchie recalls moving from San Francsico to Santa Cruz and how Food What?!, a youth program at UCSC’s Farm and Garden, energized his transition to a new life in Santa Cruz. This broadcast is the culmination of an 8-week workshop lead by recent UCSC graduate and former KZSC Program Director Tyler P. Wardwell (American Studies B.A., 2012). Students in the workshop studied oral histories, interview techniques, media law, digital audio recording and editing.

“Natural Bridges Spoken: Stories from Santa Cruz Youth” airs tonight at 8:30pm on KZSC.
