Frank Ocean, a member of Odd Future (OFWGKTA) recently released his second album, channel Orange, on July 10. His first album was quite successful, and I look forward to seeing where this album leads him. Along with his new album Ocean sent out a letter to his fans informing them about when he “realized [he] was in love”. His first love was a man. Ocean spent an entire summer falling in love with this man. I found his story extremely impressive and I am a very proud fan.
Ocean writes in his message, “To my first love, I’m grateful for you. Grateful that even though it wasn’t what I hoped for and even though it was never enough, it was. Some things never are…and we were. I won’t forget you. I won’t forget the summer. I’ll remember who I was when I met you. I’ll remember who you were and how we’ve both changed and stayed the same. I’ve never had more respect for life and living than I have right now “. If you would like to read his entire message to the public, please go to this link: http://thisisham.com/2012/07/04/frank-ocean-admits-to-being-gay-coming-out-letter/. I find his letter and his honesty almost revolutionary. I am a very proud fan of Frank Ocean and I cannot wait to see where his immeasurable talent takes him.
If you have not listened to channelORANGE, you should. His new album, as some may know, shows hints of his love for multiple people in his life. His lyrics are well thought out and he uses his knowledge of words well. Ocean’s attributes are revealed throughout the entire album. Please take the time to listen to it. Some of my favorite songs are Pyramids, Bad Religion, and Forrest Gump. Enjoy his creativity, honesty, vulnerability, and talent.
