Teada

Teada Sat Nov 24th

The Celtic Society of the Monterey Bay presents the Irish band Teada on Saturday, November 24, 2012 at 7:30pm at the Kuumbwa Jazz Center in Santa Cruz, CA. Appearing at major music festivals around the world, Teada has now grown to a six-member band with the recent addition of legendary singer and button accordion player Seamus Begley from West Cork. Oisin Mac Diarmada is the founder of Teada, and is an All-Ireland fiddle champion. Other members of the group include Tristan Rosenstock on bodhran (Irish drum), Paul Finn on button accordion, Damien Stenson on flute and whistle, and Sean Mc Elwain on bouzouki and guitar. They’re firmly based in the traditional music of Ireland, but also leave room for creative spontaneity in their energetic performances.

Our Staff Gives Thanks

Although it’s true all year, everyone at KZSC would like to extend our special thanks to you during this season for listening and supporting our station. Hundreds of volunteers put in an uncountable amount of hours creating what you hear through your speakers; we couldn’t fit them all in this photo but if you click on the picture, you’ll see a few of your favorite program hosts squeezed into our station lobby. It’s good to know that from time to time The Great 88 can entertain and inform you. 2013 and the years ahead will be exciting times of change. It is our hope that KZSC will continue to grow and change as well. Stay tuned!

Best Album Artwork of 2012

We’ve all been told not to judge a book by its cover, but what about albums? Imagine walking in to your local record store, pumped to flip through bins and let your eyes scan over the endless possibilities for a new find. How many times has an album jumped out at you, not because of the name of the band, but because of the image plastered on its cover? Covers communicate an album’s first impression upon its viewers, hoping that by catching your eye it will tempt your ears into listening to the artist’s work. This year, there has been a flood of great music entering our station at KZSC, and I can’t help but get excited when I see the freshly printed covers. It was hard to pick a few favorites, and I’d love to hear from you about the albums you find to be the prettiest albums of 2012. Comment away, this list is hardly exhaustive!
