How rad are three-day weekends? Instead of putting off work until Sunday, everyone gets an extra day to regret not doing a single productive thing. Now that you’re well rested, you can check out this week’s new music! Remember The Locust? Even better, remember when current Retox vocalist, Justin Pearson, pulled the best gag on reality TV?

Fans of any past Pearson projects  (music and pranks alike) or just good Punk/Hardcore, be sure to check out Retox’s new album YPLL. If you can, be sure to catch this band live and hopefully you can come close to breaking your nose like I almost did last time they came around.

Shannon and the Clams

The Clams Have Come Back!

One of KZSC’s favorite Oakland four piece bands, Shannon & The Clams, have just released Dreams in the Rat House. We haven’t heard anything from them since the Gremlin Crawl 7″ so this is a HUGE DEAL. Best of all: the album was recorded in the Santa Cruz mountains. All you Clams fans out there should be freaking out. If you saw Shannon and the Clams at the New Parish last weekend you know that they are as high energy and sassy as ever. You can buy Dreams in the Rat House now online, I know I will be picking up a copy.

Here’s a little taste with their song Rip Van Winkle.

Ceremony June 7th

Ceremony is a hardcore punk band from Rohnert Park. They have been recording with Madator Records for a few years now and their latest release, “Zoo,” came out last year. Ceremony is set to play the Catalyst in downtown Santa Cruz. If their show there earlier this year is an indicator, it’s bound to be another fun time! Plus you’ll see plenty of  KZSC folks down there. Ceremony is performing with Soft Moon and Total Control as openers. They’ll be appearing in the Catalyst Atrium Friday, June 7th. Showtime is 8:30 pm.

Here’s a video of them playing at Gilman, just to get you pumped:

Lois with Seawolf

Sea Wolf Drops by KZSC

KZSC’s Program Director Lois Rosson had a chance to sit down with Alex Brown Church of Sea Wolf to discuss their latest album, Old World Romance. Sea Wolf played at Moe’s Alley on May 21st, the 3rd stop on a five-week tour promoting the new album. Listen to Church talk about Sea Wolf’s origins, influences, and evolution:

After getting beaten and bruised at the Dillinger Escape Plan show, it was nice to take some time off and relax to some of the new releases slated for this week. Fans of Orchid (Doom Metal band not Screamo band, but that would be rad if they had a new album) will be pleased with their latest release. Slow rockin’, headbangin’, doomy metal was the perfect way to fix my broken body. Now if you don’t mind I’m going drift into the catatonic dream state this album will you in and hope I never wake up.
