MGMT still finding ways to out-weird themselves

MGMT’s self titled third album won’t be released until September but they have come out with one trippy new music video for their new single “Your Life is a Lie.” What I love about MGMT is that they always find a way to out-weird themselves.

Now I know what you’re thinking, “Is my life a lie? Have I wasted these years looking at pictures of cats online? Why does watching a man eating a banana make me so uncomfortable.” I can’t really answer any of these questions for you, but I can tell you this much, I don’t know what is going on in this video.

Yeah Yeah Yeahs Aug. 16th

College music students from Ohio make it big..by leaving. The story’s been told before, but The Yeah Yeah Yeahs have kept things moving forward (and away from the Buckeye State) since the Millennium. Nominated for Grammy’s “Best Alternative Music Album” in 2004, 2007 and 2010, the group is currently showcasing their 2013 release “Mosquito” on tour. If you missed them at Coachella, hear them perform at The Rio Theatre in Santa Cruz Friday, August 16th.  Showtime 8 pm.

Donna the Buffalo

Donna the Buffalo, Sun Aug 4th

From New York, Donna the Buffalo brings their energetic spin on alt-country to Moe’s Alley in Santa Cruz, CA on Sunday, Aug 4, 2013 at 8:30pm. Their first studio-produced CD in five years was released less than two months ago, and has already risen to number 8 on the national Americana Radio Chart. The band has been together for 25 years and has released 11 albums to critical acclaim, presenting a unique mix of music that includes elements from country, rock, folk, cajun/zydeco, and reggae that’s tastefully done. More than just a thumping jam band, their work is driven by the strong and thoughtful songwriting of Tara Nevins and Jeb Puryear, who both have strong roots in traditional old-time string band music.

Annais

KZSC DJ Tribute Aug. 26

Porter College student Annais Rittenberg joined The Great 88 as program host of “Cajun Spice”, a program devoted to the sounds of New Orleans back in 2010. Her passion for music from other cultures quickly led to serving a term as KZSC’s World Music Director and hosting another show “Global Grooves”. She was a bright spirit with lots to offer new volunteers when they came to the station. Annais passed away July 3rd while working as a children’s summer camp counselor. KZSC will present a 3-hour tribute Monday, August 26th starting at 6 AM.
