Yeah Yeah Yeahs Aug. 16th

College music students from Ohio make it big..by leaving. The story’s been told before, but The Yeah Yeah Yeahs have kept things moving forward (and away from the Buckeye State) since the Millennium. Nominated for Grammy’s “Best Alternative Music Album” in 2004, 2007 and 2010, the group is currently showcasing their 2013 release “Mosquito” on tour. If you missed them at Coachella, hear them perform at The Rio Theatre in Santa Cruz Friday, August 16th.  Showtime 8 pm.

Jeffery Broussard

Jeffery Broussard & The Creole Cowboys Wed July 31st

Dance to the Creole and Zydeco music of Jeffery Broussard & The Creole Cowboys tonight, Wed July 31, 2013 at Don Quixote’s in Felton, CA at 7:30pm. Jeffery is a master of traditional style Creole and Zydeco music as learned from the legendary Canray Fontenot and Jeffery’s famed accordion-playing dad, Delton Broussard, that few performers highlight today. At the age of 8, Jeffery played drums in his dad’s band. Now fronting his own band, Jeffery sings and plays old-style button accordion, newer piano-key accordion and acoustic fiddle and enthusiastically works to pass the joy of traditional music on to younger generations. The band also puts its own spin on contemporary Zydeco style music, so there’ll be plenty of rhythm for dancing.

Bob Dylan, Wilco, and My Morning Jacket will descend upon the venue famously built atop a landfill as part of their Americanarama Festival tour. And with the promise of over 4 hours of music at each stop, it’s sure to be a knockout night. The Americanarama Festival takes place Sunday, August 4th at the  Shoreline Amphitheater in Mountain View. Show begins at 5:30 pm.

Fanfare Ciocarlia: Moe’s Alley July 20th

Fanfare Ciocarlia – whose name translates as “lark’s song”, are from the village of Zece Prajini in north eastern Romania. With humble beginnings as musicians performing  at local weddings, this group is full of vigor and daring. They are known for such idiosyncrasies as their well  worn instruments, impromptu blasts from horns and clarinets, and going sheet music-less.  A great driving,  staccato and high energy style, they bring to all their music and interpretations. Fanfare Ciocarlia makes their Santa Cruz debut  “for a Saturday night Balkan Brass dance party” at Moe’s Alley Saturday, July 20th. Doors open at 7:30; music at 8:30 pm.
