Luke Abbott and Molly Tuttle will be performing as a bluegrass duet on Saturday, June 11, 2011 at 8pm, at The Abbey, 350 Mission St., Santa Cruz, CA (831) 429-1058. Both are singers and multi-instrumentalists, and part of a younger generation of artists who have studied and played traditional music but also add originality to their musical interpretations. They can also be found performing regularly in their own family bands, The Abbott Family and The Tuttles with AJ Lee. Molly’s family band was voted by the Northern California Bluegrass Association as the 2011 Best Bluegrass Band, and she also won an individual award as 2011 Best Bluegrass Guitar Player.

The Wake the Dead band who are mostly from the SF Bay Area, blends traditional Celtic music played on acoustic instruments with the songs of the Grateful Dead. They’ll be performing at Don Quixote’s International Music Hall, 6275 Highway 9, Felton, CA (831) 603-2294 on Friday, June 3, 2011 at 8pm. Two of the performers that evening, headliner Blackbird Blackbird and Old Arc, are KZSC/Rising Tide program alums, and whose spectacular electronic pop music will surely get the crowd grooving. Seapony, a spectacular lo-fi indie pop act from Seattle, are also featured on the bill. Muriel Anderson is widely regarded as one of the premier fingerstyle guitarists on the scene today. She’ll be performing at an intimate house concert on the west side of Santa Cruz, CA on Tuesday, May 24, 2011 at 7:30pm. For location and reservations contact Steve Palazzo <email@example.com>. Muriel is the only woman to have won the National Fingerpicking Guitar Championship. Her music can be heard in Woody Allen’s film “Vicky Cristina Barcelona” and her “Heartstrings” recording accompanied astronauts on the space shuttle Discovery. Muriel recorded the video below earlier this month, playing a harp guitar in her garden in honor of Santa Cruz’s Velzoe Brown, who passed away recently at the age of 101.
