Charts and Adds: First Week of July

Summer is in full swing. Kids are running around with sticky popsicle stained fingers. People zum by on Easter egg colored beach crusiers. And we are at the Great 88, keep you updated on what’s new and spinning in the world of jazz. One artist, I think we should all keep our eyes out for is Berklee alum Melissa Aldana. This Chilean native debuts her killer sax skills on her album Melissa Aldana and  the Crash Trio (Concord), which features Francisco Mela on drums and Pablo Menares on bass. The album is melodically rich and dense, but also touches on her Latin roots in just the right ways.

The new album by Thee Oh Sees has been charting very well at KZSC since it arrived in the mail. Thee Oh Sees have always gotten a lot of love from KZSC djs, and this album is an amazing addition to their already outstanding body of work. Here’s a super cool song off of their album entitled King’s Nose:

Jazz Charts and Adds: Last Week of June

As it is apparently, all goods things must come to an end. Lucky for us at KZSC, things are just starting to heat up for the jazz and blues department thanks to some great adds and tunes. Most notable, the latest album Trios Live Nonesuch from American saxophonist Joshua Redman. And soccer fans are not the only ones looking towards Brazil (or the “South American way”) around this time. The department has been getting some wonderful bossa nova music to satisfy your cool jazz needs. Keep it cool, Santa Cruz.
