Charts and Adds: Third Week of October

Howdy all. October is more than in fully swing now. Students are rushing about to find a costume and the last moments of NorCal sun are slowly disappearing, yet some things do not change as drastically. The charts for Jazz has remained relatively constant. For example, Hiromi still remains on the charts as does Bria Skonberg.  New chart topper, and gospel infused songstress Alicia Olatuja adds to the female dominated charts this time around. Novox, a funky electronic mixed album, also is new to the charts and adds an eclectic element to the charts.

Charts and Adds for the Third Week of September

As always, our weekly adds and charts from the world of jazz here at KZSC.  Some new artists are infiltrating what has otherwise been a summer dominated by a few great artists. This week we have introduced Afro Bop Alliance, a compilation of upbeat Brazilian tunes, to the airwaves alongside Moon Hooch, a new New York experimental jazz group. And by experimental, I mean straight up placing traffic cones in their horns. All the same, we are lucky to have a fair mixture of jazz legends of new and old. New Blue Note artists include pianist and composer Jason Moran (All Rise); and drummer Otis Brown III (The Thought of You).  Brown has worked alongside acclaimed artists like Esperanza Spalding and Terence Blancahard. Chick Corea’s latest album Triology is nothing short of a trinity of modern jazz masters…. Bassist Christian McBride  and drummer Brian Blade accompany Corea on this live album, which contains three albums steeped in hard driving melodic lines.
