Exposure is Contagious

Life at a college radio station reveals the following truth.  Regardless of which genres you prefer, you will happen upon music that you never knew about, but now love.  Case in point, QUINTRON!!!  Some months ago, I came across his latest album, “Sucre Du Sauvage” and have been a fan ever since.   Recorded at the New Orleans Museum of Art, it’s a genre defying CD that is a true delight.  What’s even better is that Quintron played at The Crepe Place in mid-town Santa Cruz last week, June 28th.  What a revelation!  One of the best shows I’ve seen this year!  And speaking of shows, we’ve got plenty of them here on KZSC.  We hope to expose you to music that you find contagious.

Change is in the Air!

Hi Everyone,

As the school year comes to a close, it’s time for the next generation of genre directors to take the reigns. My name is Nicholas (Nikki) Mokover, and I am currently interning with Jacqueline Culas for the Jazz and Blues Director position next year. I am very excited to join the KZSC Governing Board team, and look forward to taking the jazz and blues department to the next step. A little about me: I went to the L.A. County High School for the Arts where my concentration was in instrumental Jazz, and now am a second year banana slug. I hope to bring my knowledge of the complexities of jazz and share it with the community. Yes, jazz can be complicated at times, but I hope to make it understandable. I look forward to working with everyone here at the Great 88 and labels/promoters world wide.

Just last week I was at the Death to All Tour, this week I’ll be seeing Russian Circles, and the following month I’ve got The Contortionist (hopefully) and shortly after Summer Slaughter (insert metal roar here). If you’re into mosh pits and bleeding out your ears, you’ve got quite a big summer ahead of you.

Congratulations to all graduates of UCSC 2012! I personally went to my college’s (Crown) gradutation ceremony to see some of my closest friends move on to bigger and better things. It’ll be sad seeing some of them go, but I am very excited for what is in store for them. Once again, congrats to each and every one of you!
