As we wind our way through the month of December, KZSC will be presenting some special stuff over the airwaves. Yes there will be “seasonal music” but keep an ear out for other surprises too. And in January our program schedule will morph once again, adding new student voices and shows that will start a New Year off on the good foot. Thanks for listening and supporting The Great 88 in 2012; get ready for the new KZSC in 2013!
Celebrating 50 years as a band, The Rolling Stones played an incredible night at London’s O2. Bringing out favorites from five decades, they proved to be still able to rock it. Here’s a sample: an extended version of “Midnight Rambler” featuring former 70’s Stones lead guitarist Mick Taylor.
From left to right it’s Madeline, Luisa, Lani, Betsy and Carol. Known collectively as “Breakfast in Bed”, it has been recognized as the longest-running women’s music program on radio. They prefer to say their show, “features music by women for everyone”. Need a lift on the weekend? Check out “Breakfast in Bed” with a this bunch every Sunday morning at 9 on KZSC.
Have you ever wondered what kind of spider that is in your bedroom window? Is it a wolf spider? Is it a black widow? (If you responded yes to the last question, kill the spider immediately. Please.) No matter what species of spider encroaches on your personal space, you have to admit–it’s nice having him around. His name might be Henry. He might be a bulbous orb weaver (Google images of “orb weaver,” I dare you). A few things about Henry are definite. He’s there every evening when you get home from a long day of work. He always says the right things. He knows you pretty well–that you try to match your underwear to your socks but the blues are a little bit off, that you watch Big Bang Theory very late at night. Your spider hates you for that, by the way; one of his eight tiny legs face palms his tiny face. But he’ll never judge you. He’ll watch you and lure you in with his exotic ways and love you from afar until you love him back. Kind of like KZSC. Both Henry and KZSC are delightfully predictable, even when you’re Facebook stalking Marty O’Reilly (http://martyoreilly.com/): they can always be found on the web.
Check out The Cruz Report Tuesday nights 8-8:30pm.
Although it’s true all year, everyone at KZSC would like to extend our special thanks to you during this season for listening and supporting our station. Hundreds of volunteers put in an uncountable amount of hours creating what you hear through your speakers; we couldn’t fit them all in this photo but if you click on the picture, you’ll see a few of your favorite program hosts squeezed into our station lobby. It’s good to know that from time to time The Great 88 can entertain and inform you. 2013 and the years ahead will be exciting times of change. It is our hope that KZSC will continue to grow and change as well. Stay tuned!
For the second time in my life, I have attended a GWAR show. This most recent time was also @ the Catalyst and on the eve of the election. Naturally, both candidates for president appeared as puppets in the show and both were promptly decapitated, whereupon their neck holes sprayed fake blood into the audience while the band played a savage tune. My favorite was the 13 ft. high “cyber Jesus” puppet. Awesome! Yes, this stuff is not Shakespeare, but it most certainly is theatre. True, you are not required to get covered in fake blood, but you must be there in person. You cannot tweet GWAR, you slave!
