“Music is forever; music should grow and mature with you, following you right on up until you die.” This mindset is part of the reason why Paul Simon still matters. Not content with reminiscing about Simon & Garfunkel, “Rhymin’ Simon” has continued to change and grow as a songwriter with a signature style. You can hear Paul Simon discuss inspiration, how he keeps his muse going and the process of songwriting on Tuesday, January 24th when we spend an hour with Paul Simon. It’s part of “Triple Decker Tuesday, starting at 6 AM on KZSC-FM.
2012 is the Chinese New Year of the Dragon. In Eastern philosophy, the Dragon is said to be a free spirit of the zodiac, a deliverer of good fortune with restrictions blowing out the creative spark that is always ready to flame into life. Sounds a lot like The Great 88. This month KZSC will be showing off our new program schedule for 2012, and we think it’s going to be hot. Watch our website for more news; the new schedule begins Monday, January 23rd.
Any hard-core Beatle fan would love to take the walk across one of the most famous intersections in music history – the same place The Fab Four had their Abbey Road cover picture taken. The Peironnet family (Simone following her dad William) did this recently and will be special guests on this week’s “Here, There & Everywhere” program. Putting their heads together, they’ve come up with some interesting musical requests. Please make them welcome, add your Beatles faves to their list and tune in between 6 and 9 AM Thursday on KZSC.
KZSC will be brightening up your holidays with great programs, surprise guests and some special giveaways all the way to January. And now with our new Android app, you can keep your smartphone locked on The Great 88 on the go. So whether you’re tuned in at your computer, while you drive or with your FM radio, we hope you’ll stay plugged in to what’s happening with us at KZSC.
For those of us looking to deviate from the holiday season’s consumption compulsion, Brooklyn’s Truth & Soul records has got our back. They’re offering up a free download of a Lee Fields single off is upcoming LP release, Faithful Man. Yes, you can tell that special someone you love them with out a luxury vehicle or diamond. With a throwback funky feel, the track could be the perfect paperless gift. Over a luscious groove laid down by The Expressions, Mr. Fields croons silky gold lyrics that you’ll want to inscribe on the inside of your eyelids: “I never met a girl so cool, so fine, so in control — lookin’ like a center fold!”
With over four decades of experience performing alongside an impressive list of funkateers (a few: Kool and the Gang, O.V. Wright, and Darrell Banks) Fields collaborated with with The Expressions for a 2009 full-length, My World. On that record Fields promised to pilot soul music into the now, and from listening to this first single, Faithful Man will deliver on that promise.
