That’s right, the Brady Bunch have arrived, much to the excitement of students at KZSC. We’ve named our ten new Tascam portable audio recorders after members of the famous TV family. These devices will enable our student Talk Programming team to get in-person audio and cover exciting events. Most recently, five members of the Brady Bunch were used to collect audio during the March 1st “Day of Action” protests at UC Santa Cruz. The audio was then edited together and presented in a special broadcast the same night. The Bunch are not just restricted just to our campus. “Jan Brady” took a little trip up to San Francisco to cover a Red Bull concert event and “Marcia Marcia Marcia” put her activist hat on to head for Sacramento, collecting audio of student protesters on the steps of the capitol. Overall, the new recorders have been a big help to the Talk Programming Department and deliver top notch on-site sound. To hear some of the past Talk Programming shows check our podcast link. We’d like to thank those listeners who donated this year to KZSC; your support has made this possible!
UPDATE: THANK YOU! KZSC advanced to Round 4 which is now underway. KZSC vs. KWVA – LISTEN LIVE! HELP US WIN!
The clever people at Soundtap.com have caught March Madness. They’ve placed the top 64 college radio stations in a tournament bracket-style. Not officially sanctioned by the NCAA, stations are competing head-to-head to see who can accrue the most listener minutes during each three-day match. Soundtap promises fantastic prizes for the winning station, but we’re in this for the love of the game.
In round four, we’re now matched up against KWVA, the University of Oregon. Please help advance the Great 88 to the tournament’s Final Four.
To join the fun, here’s how you can participate:
1. Go to soundtap.com and create an account. You’ll have to verify your account via facebook or text message. It takes two seconds, it’s free, and it doesn’t spam you.
2. At soundtap.com/madness click the blue PLAY button next to KZSC on the right side of the screen. The longer you listen, the more we score.
3. Enjoy the same music and talk programming you usually listen to on our website, and root us on to The Final Four!
In the islands, it’s “Mahalo”; here will simply say Thank You to all our webstream and radio listeners who help by contributing funds to The Great 88. We would not/could not be here without you. If you haven’t made a donation yet or wish to donate again, the “Wiki Wiki” (fast) way to give is on our website.
You can also mail donations to: KZSC at 1156 High Street, Santa Cruz, CA 95064. We appreciate it.

This is Mai. She and Cuddles the Bear prepare a yummy pink box of donuts daily for our volunteers during KZSC’s Pledge Drive. We love these as much as the next person but seven days of donuts can make one weak. You can help. By doing a donation by phone at 831-459-4036, we’ll have to put the donuts down to take your call – and that’s a good thing. It also allows this community radio station to survive on the airwaves. Option #2: Pledge on-line Anytime. On behalf of Cuddles and KZSC, we thank you.
We’ve got a lot to shout about during our 2012 On-Air Pledge Drive. It’s our 45th Anniversary; we’ve got special programming and gifts for you when you donate and our program hosts have been drinking coffee and eating donuts for 48 hours straight.
Do your part to help us get to our goal (and back to healthy eating habits) by calling us at 831-459-4036 and making a financial contribution or click your mouse and PLEDGE!
