UC Santa Cruz is home to the Banana Slugs however their BFF the snail says it best. We are now inching our way towards our financial goal. Hundreds have called in during our On-Air Fall Fundraiser; now we are asking everyone to “snail mail” in pledge payments as soon as possible. Our mailing address is:
KZSC/UC Santa Cruz/1156 High Street, Santa Cruz, CA 95064. Too late to pledge? Never! Help us by donating on line today!
After 5 days of asking, The Great 88 is racing towards the end of our Fall On-Air Fundraiser. We’re within $5,000 of our final goal and a big “High Five” to everyone who’s called or pledged here on our website. You can help KZSC race to the finish line with a donation in any amount…all funds go towards our operating costs. You may even get a cool gift when you give and make out like a bandit.

The City and County of Santa Cruz, the City of Capitola and dozens of other California cities and counties are moving forward to enact Single-Use Bag Reduction ordinances. The basic idea seems to be to encourage consumers to re-use bags vs. the paper-or-plastic dilemma. Here’s one to consider: the KZSC “Dino Tote”. It can handle around 120 LPs (if you can carry them) with its flat bottom or your groceries, school books or anything else you might think of.

Finally it’s fall! Along with the changing colors of the leaves also come new music shows on KZSC. So attention all hip hop heads: we have not one, but three hip hop shows with themes that range from all female to gangster to underground to international. Yea, KZSC is bringing it this season. Tune in Friday nights for Taking Back The Radio (10:30), Saturdays for That Thang (8:30-10:30 pm) and Sunday nights for Beat Headz (10:30-12:30) to get your hip hop fix.
Do you have a musical thirst on Thursdays? Let The Great 88 make your cup runneth over starting at 6 AM with a 3 hour dose of Beatles during “Here, There & Everywhere” followed by DJ Tiffany and the “Joy in the Morning” reggae fest. Afternoons feature two new musical tributes to geographic areas – The Big Easy and Louisiana during “Cajun Spice” (noon-2 pm) followed by the Celtic sounds of “Lucky Clover” (2-4 pm). The time machine moves to the New Wave decade at 4 pm when “Living in the 80′s” premieres at a new time, followed by KPFA News from Berkeley with love at 6.
More info including playlists can be found on our schedule page. Keep listening for a long weekend of surprises on KZSC.
