To all the readers of the Santa Cruz Weekly: Thank You! KZSC was voted “Best Radio Station” in this year’s Gold Awards. We’ve received national attention and awards this year but there’s nothing better than knowing the people who turn the knobs or push the buttons on their radios right here in Santa Cruz chose The Great 88 as their favorite. It’s a great feeling when your car window is rolled down and you hear 88.1 FM in the vehicle next to you at the stop light. All of us here at KZSC appreciate the award. We’ll do our best to live up to your praise.

Well, here at KZSC, the academic year is more than halfway over, and big station projects, like our 2010 Listener Survey are well on their way to completion. I thought I’d explain this process to you, with a little help from one of the best girl groups ever, The Shangri-Las.
Past, well now let me tell you about the past. The school year began and so did my position as Volunteer Coordinator for KZSC. Along with recruiting new volunteers who hoped to become your new favorite DJ, my job involved creating a survey to find out what YOU thought about KZSC.
Present. Well, those surveys were completed and are currently being processed. KZSC would love to thank each and everyone of you for the valuable feedback.
The future. The results of this survey will help implement changes that you would like to see at KZSC. If you would like to help those changes move along even quicker, be sure to stay tuned for our On-Air Pledge Drive, starting March 5th.
Thanks for supporting the Great 88!
Shall we dance?
By now you have most likely been pummeled by all news related to love and hearts. Well, good news, because the day is finally here! Which means you can stop worrying. Here at KZSC, we fully respect any decisions to willfully ignore a holiday. As such, we’d like to make a small offer to you: Any unwanted valentines, love notes, candies, chocolates, teddybears, roses, and gift certificates for massages can be easily recycled by sending them to us (see address at the bottom of this post).
If you’re still in the spirit, we also will gladly accept any love-letters that you have been procrastinating on sending to our lovely DJs and staff. Email any love letters to email@example.com with the “KZSC valentine” in the headline and we will gladly forward them to your sweetheart honey bee. For the slug-mail option of love letter sending and recycle, please send mail to:

Sometime Tuesday, December 21st KZSC will be doing scheduled maintenance on our web server. Our plan is to start sometime late afternoon/early evening and be completed in about an hour. Trust us: this will make using our site even better. Thanks for your understanding; you’ll be able to get back to kzsc.org before you know it.
Thanks to the wonderful people at Couch Potato and the discerning eyes of our own Volunteer Coordinator and Member Services Director, KZSC now has a brand new couch! Our old, sagging, and slightly dangerous La-Z-Boy behemoth has finally been laid to rest, and an extremely fancy sectional aptly nicknamed “Purple Rain” has taken its hallowed (and very stained) place. So, when the KZSC staff trickles back in after winter break, there’s no need to worry about losing possessions or contracting any strange rashes! (Side note: we are, effective today, accepting volunteer hours for fanning the Executive Committee/Governing Board members as they luxuriate.)
