Irish piper and whistle player extraordinaire Paddy Keenan, will be in concert with a guitar accompanist tonight at 7:30pm at Don Quixote’s, 6275 Highway 9, Felton, CA. Presented by the Celtic Society of the Monterey Bay, Paddy was a member of the critically acclaimed Bothy Band, which did much to popularize traditional Irish music around the globe with their first album released in 1975.

They’ve been married to each other for the past 27 years, and have performed solo and with other groups independently, but finally released their first studio album together last year (“Saints and Sinners”). Mollie and Rich choose great songs to sing that you may not have heard before that cover a wide swath of genres, including elements from jazz, blues, gospel, show tunes, and country music. Rich is also a composer of interesting tunes on the guitar.
Gerry O’Beirne, Irish singer-songwriter and multi-instrumentalist (6 and 12 string guitar, tiple, ukulele, slide guitar and more), will be performing at a house concert in Bonny Doon, CA in an intimate setting starting at 7:00pm on Wednesday, March 30, 2011. From Illinois and currently based in Nashville, Abigail is a clawhammer style banjo player and singer-songwriter pushing the envelope of folk music to include a tasty indie pop edge. Her recent release “City of Refuge” tells stories of people from around the globe trying to find a place in the world. Having spent time in China and able to speak fluent Chinese, those elements also make their way into her music. Also on the bill will be Honeymoon, a group of four singer-songwriting women from the Monterey/Bay Area also playing an indie-folk blend of traditional roots music with a pop sensibility.
