Summer Music Sale

The Saturday during Labor Day weekend, KZSC and Verve Coffee will present a Summer Music Sale. Both new and used LPs, CDs and music items will be offered in the thousands, including rare and collectable pieces. Vendors such as Streetlight Records, MetaVinyl, BlueBeat Music and of course the infamous KZSC 25-cent booth will all be there. And since this is happening in the Verve parking lot, there’s plenty of coffee and goodies available too.  The KZSC/Verve Coffee Summer Music Sale takes place Saturday, August 31st from 10 AM till 3 PM at Verve Coffee, 104 Bronson Street (just a block off Seabright near Dave’s Market). Get there early for best selection. More info? Call KZSC at 459-4733. See you there!

Istanbul-postcard-1

No Bull…Istanbul!

Our latest batch of postcards received at The Great 88 from our listeners included one from a “Kiss/KZSC Army Member”, nice alohas from Iris & Duane on Maui, JR on O’ahu plus a typical New York salute added to a “Greetings from Avenue A” postcard from a traveler in Manhattan. But the big apple of the bunch has to be this one from Istanbul. If your summer plans call for travel anywhere between Los Gatos and the Galapagos Islands, don’t forget to take your favorite station along by using our website or Smart Phone App. And before you sail off the edge of the planet, please mail us a postcard. We’ll share your card and comments with our staff & others on our website.  Mail your postcards to:

Lois

Programmer of the Month: Lois Rosson

The year was 2009 and a curious freshman walked into the first staff meeting of the school year held by the legendary KZSC. The vinyl and posters that covered every inch immediately enthralled her. Lois describes her first thoughts after such an experience as being, “I want to hang out here.” And she did. Miss Rosson completed all of her volunteer hours that very quarter, was accepted to the radio class the very next quarter menteeing under Gemini Slim of Indie Babies, and hosted her very first show in the Spring of 2010 under the pleasant and distorted name of Lo-fi(which she proudly uses to this day) bringing doo-wop for the weekend, Saturdaymornings on “Powder Blue Tuxedo.” Lo-fi would go on to host a great number of other shows including “Tin Pan Alley Aftermath” and the show she currently hosts “Celestial Boob Tube.” During her time at the station, Lois also took on leadership roles at KZSC. She was first a member of the Peer Review Committee and has just finished her reign as Program Director of the 2012 to 2013 school year. The saddest news I bring you today is that Lois is leaving KZSC, but on a happier note she is graduating from the University of California, Santa Cruz with a Bachelors degree in Art and History and is also June’s programmer of the month at KZSC. We love you Lois Rosson, are very proud of you and everything you have accomplished, and wish you the very best in all of your endeavors. Catch Lo-fi’s last show on Wednesday June 12th from 8:30 p.m. to 10:30 p.m. “Celestial Boob Tube” on KZSC, Santa Cruz.

KZSC Governing Board

Passing the Torch

Every year for KZSC comes the bittersweet moment of our old governing board stepping down and being replaced by their mentees. Tonight is night that this transition completes. Know that regardless of this transition KZSC is and will always be committed to community radio and giving you, the audience, the best possible experience we can. For the most part this new governing board has been blogging their way into your hearts already, so the transition may have seamlessly slipped by. So on behalf of all the KZSC staff and I (your “new” new media director), welcome to another fun year of noncommercial radio and feel free to let us know how we’re doing!
