Harlequin Baby’s synth-fueled madness firmly plants them as one of Santa Cruz’s most remarkable and original acts, even amid the town’s diverse and rich resource of local musicians. The group has been gaining momentum as of late, performing memorably at the Santa Cruz Underground Music festival (or SCUM Fest), and they will be making their radio debut tonight on the Rising Tide on KZSC Santa Cruz at 8:30pm sharp! Be sure to turn in and hear this breakthrough group perform a few songs live in the studio as well as talk about their upcoming Crepe Place show on June 30th where they’ll be performing with lo-fi dance artist Nite Jewel.
If you haven’t heard KZSC’s new circus/gypsy/cabaret show, now’s the time. Tomorrow from 4-6pm The Baro Foro Death Circus will be on air– with special guests Amanda Palmer and Jason Webley! The two will be talking about the Evelyn Evelyn album that they recently put out. Evelyn Evelyn, the concept album about a pair of conjoined twins, which includes songs like “You Only Want Me ‘Cause You Want My Sister” and a cover of “Love Will Tear Us Apart.” Awesome. Tune in tomorrow to hear more!
Tetherhorse recently came through the KZSC studios to perform live for The Rising Tide. The band will be playing at Streetlight Records for Record Store Day on Saturday, so here’s a little preview to get you warmed up! This is Tetherhorse, here are our very own little cabin in the woods:
Mary McCaslin and Steve Palazzo will be playing live on Backroads from Noon-2pm this coming Sunday, April 11. Mary is a folk singer extraordinaire (and former KZSC DJ!) and has returned home to Santa Cruz after completing a national tour. She’ll be joined by Steve Palazzo, local flatpicking guitar guru and singer with the bluegrass band Homefire. They’re both participating in the Fiddling Cricket Acoustic music series at The Ugly Mug in Soquel next week.
