One of KZSC’s newest shows is The Rising Tide on Friday nights (8:30pm – 10:30pm), helmed by DJ PassiveTheory is bringing to the airwaves the kind of local musicians and voices that need to be heard!
This Friday night, the San Francisco-by-way-of-Berkeley indie rock trio GRAND LAKE will be KZSC’s guests live on The Rising Tide! We’ll learn a little about this promising new act, talk about their upcoming show at the Crepe Place, on January 24th, where they’ll be opening for Maus Haus (more information, including ticket prices, available on the Crepe Place’s website, here). The trio is in the midst of promoting their Louise EP, a four-track recording featuring Silver Jews and Port O’Brien covers, and live on The Rising Tide the group will perform a number of songs off this EP and the rest of their songwriting playbook in what will surely be an intimate affair with an burgeoning musical talent!
SCHEDULE OF GUESTS FOR THE RISING TIDE:
- 1/29 – CP WILSEA (sc) – (1019 Records, Wolf Crystal, Palm Yard)
- 2/5 – HERMIT CONVENTION (sc)
- 2/12 – COOL BAND NOW (sc)
Once upon a time a beautiful little band called Antarctica Takes It! blessed the blogosphere (and Santa Cruz) with their twee pop. The band later broke up because, hey, in college we all have different trajectories. Now the starlette Dylan McKeever is working on the project again, and by himself. He’s looking to produce a new album called “Constellations” and needs some help in financing it. Click below to check out a video introduction from him and hear some sounds!
Big news for UC students: Dani, host of Lost Minds and Found Sound, is going to be throwing a gaggle of free shows on campus next quarter. This is supppppper exciting for us and for you. And thanks to our secondary audio stream, we’ll be able to broadcast all of that goodness from us directly to you!
The first show is going to be January 16th at 7pm. Details are coming up, but we can tell you that LITTLE TEETH are going to be playing. Check their space: http://www.myspace.com/littleteethmusic. I’ve been a big fan of Little Teeth for quite a while now, so this is suuuuper exciting. I saw them play in NY (remember this?) and they were wonderful, so please, if you’re student, plan on making this!
Also, local bands? KZSC really wants to show off all the amazing local music we have here in Santa Cruz.
So, if you’re a band and want to play contact Dani (email@example.com)
The “OhMyGod” in this title translates to “OhMyGod” there is so much to do this Saturday. Like, really. If you were feeling like you might have a shortage of fun things to do this weekend, consider your life (read: weekend) changed.
Number ONE: The famoussss Annual KZSC Ultimate Music Sale is going on from 10-3pm and it is going to be nuts. There will be dozens of different vendors here to sell you wonderful musics, we will be there to sell you TWENTY FIVE CENT CDs (not to mention the bizarre LPs lurking around) and all of it’s to help benefit this wonderful little non-profit radio station. What’s not to love? Come early for all the bests, bring your car up and take advantage of the free parking, and get digging. We’ll help you to find a bargain and to help us. Yum!
The event begins at 10am and runs through to 3pm. It takes place at the Crown/Merrill Cultural Center at UCSC. For more info please email firstname.lastname@example.org
And THEN, keep your music loving pants on because Santa Cruz’s very own This Is Not a Record Label (really, it’s not) is throwing This is Not a Mikrofest II. What’s that mean? It means amazing show after amazing show after amazing show. The fun begins immediately after the music sale and continues until the wee hours of the night. The full line-up is listed after the jump. While normally I’d point you in the direction of all my faves, I think “my faves” is kind of useless in this situation. Really, all these shows will be worth it. However, I will say that I have a huge personal crush on the anti-folk sweetness of Polka Dot Dot Dot (the beloved Jordan O’ Jordan is a member). And that Matador will never cease to be a KZSC favorite.
That’s right sisters, and they’re here to knock the monochromes offa your outfit and offa your face. Harlequin Baby is the name of the fantastico: 2 girls, 1 guy, no baby, and notso gruesome. They make an edible brand of electronic music that is all crystals all candy all icecream all sexycute. ANDDD big news: they’re returning from their no-show vacation this Thursday. It’s a house show, boos, you know how we do, and it’s going to make you dance dance sweat sweat super happy happy meal. Got it?
