Lights Out

Loud Rock Charts: 11/6

In this week’s edition of new metally things that you should care about, we have a group of bands that aren’t quite as well known as the past few weeks’ additions, but they’re still just as awesome. Something noteworthy about this week’s adds: The Sacred People marks Tiamat’s 10th record. No matter what band you are, ten full lengths is an impressive feat in its own regard. Also,  is it just me or is this the millionth reissue of a Megadeth album? Don’t get me wrong, I’m not complaining, it’s just remarkable that after over 20 years Megadeth is still making waves in the loud rock genre.

Consider this: during any other year, almost every single album listed below would be an album of the year, and at the very least a top 5 record. However, 2012 isn’t just any other year. I’ve said this time and time again, but this is quite arguably the greatest single year in recent loud rock history. It doesn’t get better than this folks. Oh wait, yes it does: Deftones’ newest record drops in 2 weeks. Still unconvinced?

This week in metal comes some very interesting releases. Wintersun’s newest album that was 6 years in the making, Time I, dropped last Friday. Can it live up to more than half a decade’s worth of hype?

Another notable release  is one of Sumerian’s latest signed bands, The Haarp Machine, who are touring alongside fellow labelmates The Faceless this fall.

I think now is a very worthwhile time to point out the amazing upcoming metal albums that are dropping in this metallest of months. The list is as follows: BTBAM, Daylight Dies, Enslaved, Dethklok, Downfall of Gaia, Converge, Sylosis, Wintersun, Behold the Arctopus, and of course Neurosis. I’m sure I’ve forgotten many, but it’s hard to keep track when there have been no less than 25 albums released this year that, on their own, could probably win an Album of the Year award or two. Seriously, how good of a year is 2012 shaping up to be for us headbanging metalheads? We better enjoy it while we can, because it definitely won’t last forever…
