This was next to impossible to create. So many good albums came out in 2009, so Scrambles the Death Dealer and I contented ourselves to create our list individually so that we could cross cover certain material. That and there is a 11-20 list that covers what we couldn’t cram into ten slots. Join us as we count down the Top 10 Metal Albums of 2009! Remember, these are our lists. So hate ‘em, love ‘em and tell us what you think in the comments. Don’t be shy, tell us what your favorite list is in the comments. And stay tuned for the rest of the lists!! Read more
Picture bodies packed into a cozy garage, possibly not fully sound-proofed walls, narrow, people hanging from the rafters like the apes we are, moshing into the band, and oh so much beautiful noise. Church last night.
Third St in Santa Cruz near the Boardwalk was crammed with bodies Saturday night, wall to wall, two-stages; one garage reserved for the loud. Enter Vault Dweller hailing from Salem, Oregon trying to find their box of beer before they sound check. Then, after a lengthy tune up, they start to jam. Then there’s me, completely floored by the soul of the music. It was a groovy, doom, crust, heavy metal treat. Delicious. The bass (Big Derrick) was phenomenal, Nate hit the guitar with feeling and Brandon, the drummer on vocals was tearing through the night with piercing cries of fury. Seriously, it was great. And such an amazing turn out with all of us completely prepared to rock. The set was painfully brief so all the bands playing could fit in before the “wee hour” in Santa Cruz of 10pm when people would most assuredly complain. Still, it was enough time for Vault Dweller to conquer.
In the works this week: Our metal library is full to bursting. We have decided that a good ole purging is in order. We will be going through our Loud Rock section in the library and putting music in the bin to be sold at the cd sale!! If you would like to help with this endeavor leave a comment or send an email to loudrock[at]kzsc[dot]com
It has been a while my fellow metal heads. Exciting things happening at KZSC with the start of the Fall quarter. New musics are coming out too that are awesome. I’m sitting in a meeting where we are talking about our future and stuff so I’m going to go now…
Lots of hard choices to make this week. Look past the break to hear about Prog Nation and some bands that should have made the adds list…
What’s new in metal this week!
