Hard to imagine today, but this look was cutting edge in 1963. Proper entertainers were expected to wear matching suits/ties and “fit in”. Here come The Beatles. Granted, the Fab Four had their knock-off Pierre Cardin matching collarless suits too but for their “With the Beatles” cover photo session (called “Meet the Beatles” in the U.S.), John, George, Paul and Ringo rocked the black turtlenecks…and they changed popular culture forever. 50 years have passed since the recording of The Beatles’ second LP; you can hear how timeless the sound is every Thursday morning on KZSC’s “Here, There & Everywhere” program.
PS: Not only did Steve Jobs borrow the Apple name from his favorite band, he kept the look too.
