Holiday Gift Tip: Don’t

By Michael Bryant | Published December 19th, 2011

If you’re thinking about getting someone a holiday sweater like this, we beg on their behalf that you reconsider. Look at it this way – it’s so pretty but it’s only available as a fashion statement one season out of four. Alternate idea? A hoodie from The Great 88. They come in a variety of sizes and cool colors plus you’ll feel at ease inside a zip-up hooded sweatshirt any month of they year.

Find the perfect KZSC brand gift here. Glad we could help…before  it’s too late.

Webstream Update

By Michael Bryant | Published December 12th, 2011

If you’re a web stream listener to The Great 88, you’ll notice that the Main Stream [the one that broadcasts what happening live at 88.1 FM] is not working this weekend. It’s not because Santa found out you were naughty and left you a chunk; the Elves at The Great 88 are making some changes.  However the Main Stream’s Semi-Twin the Side Stream which features an interesting mix of sound – anything from Christmas music to Beatles, reggae, indie rock, James Brown, bluegrass or even North American bird calls – is working just fine.

Check out our Second Stream by clicking the triangle just below NOW PLAYING on the KZSC homepage then put the Main Stream on “pause” and click “play” on the Side Stream. More info about selecting the best audio for your system and access to the Great 88 Podcast vault can be found here.  We’ll have the Main Stream up and running again on Monday; thanks for your patience.

Concert Calendar

So many concerts…so little time. How do you decide? ‘Tis the season when not only holiday festivals are everywhere but local venues feature the best musicians from around the world. Let’s face it: if you’re from somewhere that snows, wouldn’t you rather play on the sunny Central Coast of California?  You can get an overview of every happening on KZSC’s Concert Calendar. Heard every weekday at noon, The Great 88 covers the music scene in Northern California in about 2 minutes. More details and choices can also be found on our Events Calendar page.

Sharon Jones at KZSC

By Program Director | Published November 18th, 2011

Brooklyn’s funky Sharon Jones & The Dap Kings bring their fiery live show to Santa Cruz this weekend. Before her bus pulls out of town, Sharon had a chance to stop by KZSC’s little log cabin in the woods to join DJs LC and Soul Patch for a session on Not So Distant Relatives. If you couldn’t make it to her sold-out show, hopefully you’ll enjoy a podcast of her interview on The Great 88. Check our podcast archives soon for the soulful scoop.

Science Gone Mad

By Michael Bryant | Published November 12th, 2011

KZSC is experimenting once again with a new feature on our website. It will allow you, dear website visitor, to communicate with other like-minded web users and our on-air host. A “Chat Room” will be open inside the playlist of the music show you’re listening to; once it’s open, you’ll be able to comment on songs, musicians and other (perhaps) items of related interest . You’ll be amazed how many people like what you do…and have something to say about it.

Our new awesome Playlist Chat feature will premiere on a variety of music shows. Find it by clicking “View Full Playlist” on our homepage. Join the fun and let’s see where science takes us next.
