LOCKSMITH Concert Review by Phaust aka Tim Hoffman 4.25.18

On April 25th, 2018, underground legend Hip Hop legend Locksmith walks onstage at The Catalyst, Atrium, in Downtown Santa Cruz before an excited audience. Locksmith gripped the audience and delivered an outstanding performance that was exciting and unexpected, it served as an amazing display of his talent as a lyricist as he spits his verses with a masterful flow and with great speed. The opening acts from artists such as Alwa Gordon and Soular managed to set the tone for the oncoming performance of the Bay Area legend who has toured with the likes of legends such as Joe Budden and R A the Rugged Man.

Locksmith would regularly interact with the audience during his performance, at one point coming down from the stage to rap in the middle of the crowd. His performance reminded me of Tech N9ne due to the high energy and the flawless execution of his performance. Production ranged from classic Boom Bap to more contemporary influence from the Trap scene, with each song carrying an intensity that kept the audience moving with the beat. Overall it was an amazing show and I can’t wait to see him perform again.
