Hundreds of music-hungry people braved the rainy weather to attend the KZSC Ultimate Music Sale. Whether you found that LP you’d been trying to find for ten years, bought a bag of CDs for five bucks or just walked to get out of the rain and eat free candy, we’re glad you came. Money raised from this annual event goes towards helping KZSC operate, so it’s all good. More info and pictures from The Ultimate Music Sale are on our Facebook Page and if you missed the fun you’ll be happy to know that The Great 88 is already planning for next year’s event in November 2013.
Here’s a peek at what the annual KZSC Ultimate Music Sale looks like. Vendors from all over the Bay Area will be selling everything from rare collectibles to bargain-priced vinyl and CDs. And yes, the legend lives on: The Great 88 will have a separate set of tables with no item over 25 cents. If you’re a music collector, the Ultimate Music Sale is…well, the ultimate. A family-friendly Santa Cruz tradition for over a decade, the KZSC Music Sale offers FREE admission and FREE parking at Merrill College.
Get here early for best selection. The double doors open at 10 a.m. TODAY. Follow the signs and balloons to the Crown/Merrill Cultural Center on the UCSC campus. More info and pictures on our Facebook Page.

Our staff tried moving this last weekend at UC Santa Cruz…sorry if that was your car down below. But we wanted to make a point: if we all push together, we can move mountains. Right now The Great 88 is pushing through our Fall On-Air Fundraiser, raising awareness about the need to keep community radio alive and well with listener support.
We hope you want to help. You can DONATE HERE. And for those of you who do, You Rock!
KZSC can sometimes perform magic. We needed to do some extensive electrical work at our tower site today and, expecting the worst, we thought it would be heavy lifting until dark. Our crack engineering staff (Thank You Don Mussell!) made short work of the project, so we are back live on the air as of noon October 20th.
Thanks for your understanding; now you know why we have pledge drives.
Here we go, it’s fall! The Talk Programming Department has gathered its minions and we are ready to attack–or rather, occupy the airwaves with quality pieces. Look out for The Cruz Report, the Talk Programming collective Tuesday nights 8-8:30pm. Six of us DJ’s will be taking turns throughout the quarter to host the show and air pieces with the shared theme of local news and events. Our audience can expect interviews with professors, performances by local musicians, audio from local events, and even sound collages. Because there are so many of us in the collective, each Tuesday night will be packed with interesting information from a student perspective. The Cruz Report fits in right after Bruce Bratton’s Universal Grapevine, so keep the dial set to 88.1 when you hear those dudes from Creedence Clearwater Revival singing about grapes!
