DakhaBrakha playing Kuumbwa Jazz April 13th

Ukranian quartet, DakhaBrakha will be playing at Kuumbwa Jazz April 13th as part of their United States tour

This Ukrainian “ethno-chaos” band creates a world of unexpected new music. Accompanied by Indian, Arabic, African, Russian and Australian traditional instrumentation, the quartet’s astonishingly powerful and uncompromising vocal range creates a trans-national sound rooted in Ukrainian culture. The name “DakhaBrakha” means “give/take” in the old Ukrainian language, and they certainly take from many world influences while giving the influence of Ukrainian culture!

You can follow their music and support the artists on bandcamp:

You can check out here the music video for their song “Please don’t cry” from their 2010 album, Light.  I highly recommend it.

HYPHEDELIC Ticket Giveaway

Bay Area’s Unknown Industries presents HYPHEDELIC, featuring artists such as LAKIM, Dailon, and Lewk. Unknown Industries is a community oriented production team based in Northern California who strive to showcase forward thinking WestCoast bass culture.

Hailing from Lynchburg, Virginia, LAKIM has been steadily making a name for himself in the electronic scene. His sound is an ever-shifting blend of crisp drum patterns, dreamy synths, and lush vocal chops. LAKIM really started to make waves in 2012, when his stellar remixing skills caught the attention of renowned beat collective, Soulection. Since then, he has continued to expand and evolve his style over multiple featured releases with the label and successful collaborations with fellow Soulection artists like Mr. Carmack and Esta.

Dylan Flach (aka DAILON) is a uniquely diverse, dynamic, and genre defying electronic music producer currently based in the hills outside of San Francisco, CA. He began his live performance career in 2009 and has since headlined countless shows across the US, as well as sharing the stage with major artists such as Tycho, Herobust, XXYYXX, Gladkill, and more. DAILON gained much of his recognition and popularity through Soundcloud, steadily receiving support from outlets like Majestic Casual, Darker Than Wax, and Soulection. After adding the element of live keys to his set in 2013, and recently releasing his debut effort “The Meaning” EP on the new Nor-Cal based label Raw Data, DAILON is certainly one to watch this year and beyond.

Lewk: (SF)

A Calgary, Alberta native who has made a home in San Francisco, LEWK’s style is rooted in the trap-centric bedroom beats that permeate the Bay Area underground scene. His latest tracks have received far-reaching support and he is ready to shake things up with the release of his debut EP next month. LEWK’s artistic yet apathetic approach to dance music is refreshing, keeping listeners engaged and craving the next song.

There will be live art and vendors from the likes of Alex Sodari, CamBot Conceptions, Tony Origami, and more. Tune in this week for a chance to win a pair of tickets to this event on January 22 at the New Karibbean City in Oakland!

Hard Working Americans Ticket Giveaway

What do you get when you take a batch of incredible songs, five veteran players who have never played together, with an arsenal of five musical minds working in unison to reinvent them? You get Hard Working Americans. Genres meld seamlessly with the birth of this group, featuring artists from the Americana, singer/songwriter, experimental, jam and rock communities. Hard Working Americans is: Todd Snider (vox), Dave Schools of Widespread Panic (bass), Neal Casal of The Chris Robinson Brotherhood (guitars/vox), Chad Staehly of Great American Taxi (keys) and Duane Trucks of Col. Bruce Hampton’s school of music and Trucks family lineage (drums).

Snider is a cult hero in Americana circles, a prolific tunesmith who has released more than a dozen albums in the past two decades. During his solo shows, he often channels the spirit of Woody Guthrie or that of his mentor, Jerry Jeff Walker, delivering politically charged underdog tales with wry humor. Somewhat surprisingly, Snider also is a huge improvisational rock fan. About two years ago, he asked Schools, who lives in California, to join him for a show in Napa. Schools then helped Snider assemble a crew that would fulfill his jam-band dreams, and Hard Working Americans was born.

One pair of tickets ($90 value) will be offered as a thank you gift for donating to KZSC! Donor’s name will be placed on the guest list.

Hard Working Americans will be playing at Cocoanut Grove Ballroom on Saturday, November 15 @ 7pm! (21+)
