Porter College student Annais Rittenberg joined The Great 88 as program host of “Cajun Spice”, a program devoted to the sounds of New Orleans back in 2010. Her passion for music from other cultures quickly led to serving a term as KZSC’s World Music Director and hosting another show “Global Grooves”. She was a bright spirit with lots to offer new volunteers when they came to the station. Annais passed away July 3rd while working as a children’s summer camp counselor. KZSC will present a 3-hour tribute Monday, August 26th starting at 6 AM.
It’s been a busy year for KZSC and we now can add “Brand New Website” to the list of accomplishments for 2013. Razorfrog Web Design in San Francisco created a completely new version of our website while keeping the look and feel similar to the previous version designed in 2010. There are some new features, pages, and designs which we hope you’ll enjoy. As always, please feel free to get in touch with any feedback, comments, or suggestions via email or the comments below.
Hard to imagine today, but this look was cutting edge in 1963. Proper entertainers were expected to wear matching suits/ties and “fit in”. Here come The Beatles. Granted, the Fab Four had their knock-off Pierre Cardin matching collarless suits too but for their “With the Beatles” cover photo session (called “Meet the Beatles” in the U.S.), John, George, Paul and Ringo rocked the black turtlenecks…and they changed popular culture forever. 50 years have passed since the recording of The Beatles’ second LP; you can hear how timeless the sound is every Thursday morning on KZSC’s “Here, There & Everywhere” program.
PS: Not only did Steve Jobs borrow the Apple name from his favorite band, he kept the look too.
KZSC is performing a small miracle. When you purchase any SIZE SMALL shirt from our website, we will add a size small Original Style KZSC Hoodie (pictured) FREE! These were the first-ever zip-up hooded sweatshirts created by The Great 88, and we have a LIMITED SUPPLY in either Cocoa or Black. So go small or go home. If you want a free KZSC Hoodie and order a small shirt, head to our DONOR PAGE.
Our latest batch of postcards received at The Great 88 from our listeners included one from a “Kiss/KZSC Army Member”, nice alohas from Iris & Duane on Maui, JR on O’ahu plus a typical New York salute added to a “Greetings from Avenue A” postcard from a traveler in Manhattan. But the big apple of the bunch has to be this one from Istanbul. If your summer plans call for travel anywhere between Los Gatos and the Galapagos Islands, don’t forget to take your favorite station along by using our website or Smart Phone App. And before you sail off the edge of the planet, please mail us a postcard. We’ll share your card and comments with our staff & others on our website. Mail your postcards to:
